Before describing these pieces and how I began doing them I have to relate that several years ago I had a major issue with my computer and lost all of my data at the time.s. It turned out that I lost all of the photos I had as well as all of the information on them and the collectors who bought them. I tried to get the information from those galleries I was with, but most did not save the images after I left, or some had closed, and I could not replace most of the files. The result is that although I have some images from the 90’s, most are not a high quality. I apologize in advance for the poor quality of some of these images.
Early in the 1992. I began to create odd shapes with the stretchers, some longer than the other, just to change away from the rectangle. Then I decided to add some wood to the stretcher bars. I had been admiring the work of Frank Stella over the last few years decided to let it all go and create constructions! That became my passion as I immersed myself in designing images and then painting them.
That was when the pieces literally began to jump off the wall. Of course, though interesting and exciting, this process took me forever to make even one piece! Here are a sample some of the results.
I don’t have an image of this piece, but it was created just after starting to move from the rectangle canvas. A much younger me as well!
